Learning English, nature and adventure in the Harz Mountains
There are no tests or memorizing vocabulary at our Berlitz language camp in Wernigerode. According to the Berlitz method of "learning by speaking", we want to convey one thing above all to kids: language is fun! Pair that with our colorful leisure program in the afternoons and you’ve got the perfect combination for the next vacation.
English learning made easy with the Berlitz method
Whether it’s doing projects on topics kids are passionate about, exciting debates or writing a camp diary, the Wernigerode Berlitz Camp is all about speaking freely and expanding vocabulary. And fun is the main feature!
Our Wernigerode language camp combines fun with learning English, all according to our tried-and-tested Berlitz method: learning by speaking. Our language training includes:
- 4 x 45-minute lessons five mornings a week,
- Learning in small groups to encourage active speaking.
Our experienced counselors motivate kids and teens to speak the camp language as much as possible – both in class and during the leisure program in the afternoons.
A language camp for adventurers and nature lovers
Fresh air, fun, and lots of exercise – these are our top priorities at Wernigerode language camp. Gaining knowledge: after morning lessons, kids will use the words and phrases they have just been taught and get to learn more new words along the way. Whether we’re walking in the woods, going swimming, or sitting round the campfire in the evening, we’ll speak in the foreign language all day long – it’s really fun! Our camp director will only speak German in exceptional cases or emergencies.
Active, creative, and exciting: our afternoon program
Exploring the forest barefoot, building a dam, or climbing the high ropes course: at Wernigerode holiday camp, there’s no time for boredom in the afternoons. And when it’s raining or too cold outside, we spend our time making cakes out of paper. Or we’ll get creative. What we do depends on the group and the Berlitz team, as well as the weather. A few examples:
- Together, we explore the stalactite caves of Rübeland.
- We experience how glass is made in the HARZKRISTALL glass manufactory.
- We have fun playing soccer, basketball, or climbing on the rock wall.
- We build huts in the forest.
- We design T-shirts or do arts and crafts together.
- Or we sing songs in the foreign language.
A cozy evening for both big and small adventurers alike
Whether round the campfire or staying snug indoors: after an exciting day, we relax in the evening with friends both new and old. Great ideas for evening programs include:
- Barbecuing and baking campfire bread,
- Hosting fun quiz evenings and game nights,
- Organizing camp parties and cozy movie nights, or
- Reading exciting stories in the foreign language.
Important note: The offered activities are depending on the weather, date, and availability – therefore the program may vary.

Welcome to Wernigerode: this is where we’ll be staying
Jugendherberge Wernigerode, Am Eichberg 5, 38855 Wernigerode
More than accommodation: the Wernigerode youth hostel
Our accommodation is the ideal place to explore the "colorful town" of Wernigerode and Harz National Park. Girls and boys will be accommodated separately in shared rooms. Sporty activities include table tennis, basketball or volleyball in the sports hall. The playground, foosball table and bowling alley provide even more variety. We’ll end off our evenings at the barbecue area, roof terrace with panoramic views or in one of the cozy lounges.
The colorful town in the Harz Mountains: welcome to Wernigerode
One thing is guaranteed at this language holiday camp in the Harz Mountains: boredom is unheard of here. Wernigerode doesn’t have the nickname "colorful town" for nothing: there’s the medieval town hall on the market square and of course the "crooked house" – the perfect spot for taking funny photos. The old town is just as wonderful to explore as the nature of nearby Harz National Park.
