Language proficiency testing enables healthcare system to improve both internal communications and patient care
The Ottawa Hospital is committed to providing world-class care and exceptional service to patients, educating future health-care professionals and developing and sharing research knowledge. In order to achieve this mission, stakeholders identified language proficiency as a key competency to effectively work across a multi-lingual workforce and client base.
In response to negative feedback of the validity and reliability of previous assessment tools, The Ottawa Hospitals leadership team overhauled their language proficiency testing approach which delivered inconsistent quality, non-standardized proficiency levels and difficult for employees to use.
Today, with their long-standing partnership with Berlitz, the organization utilizes a customized, computer-based assessment tool as a standard for language proficiency testing for French and English.
